Susie’s 10 Best Cleaning & Organizing Tips for Spring!

1.     Declutter First, Clean Next – Clear the clutter before cleaning. Sorting items into keep/donate/toss/relocate/recycle piles makes deep cleaning much easier. Don’t forget to take out the trash/recycle & deliver the donations.

2.     Target High-Impact Zones – Start with visible, high-traffic areas like entryways, kitchen counters, and mudrooms. A quick and consistent declutter in these zones makes your whole home feel tidier.

3.     Organize the “Drop Zone” – The entryway tends to collect clutter. Swap gloves and boots for sunscreen, hats, and outdoor gear, keeping a set rule for how much can be stored there.  Relocate any items that don’t belong in that area. Containerize items!

4.     Edit Your Wardrobe – Rotate your clothes for the warmer months. Sort out and donate the clothing that doesn’t fit well, you don’t love and don’t feel good wearing.

5.     Deep Clean Hidden Spots – Go beyond the surface: behind the fridge, under beds, in closets and ceiling fan blades all harbor winter dust. Work from top to bottom so dust doesn’t resettle.

6.     Refresh Your Pantry and Fridge – Toss expired food, containerize & organize items by frequency of use. Wipe down shelves and drawers for an instant reset.

7.     Garages and Outbuildings – Spring is a great time to declutter and reorganize the outbuildings, decks and garages.  It’s still cooler outside and makes the task more tolerable.  Donate unwanted tools/supplies to your local Habitat for Humanity Restore.

8.     Open Windows & Air Out the Home – Letting in fresh air helps clear out winter odors and boosts your home’s scent!

9.     Create Storage “Zones” – Group items by likeness or purpose in your garage, closet, entry way, pantry, etc. Clear bins and/or labeled baskets make it easier to maintain order through the busy summer months.

10. One Space at a Time – Pick a space to work on.  Start small and work up to larger tasks. Don’t expect to clean and organize your home in one day or weekend (it’s physical and mental work!). Make a To-Do list & schedule your projects so you know all areas have been touched.
